WHEN SHOULD MY BABY HAVE THE FIRST DENTIST APPOINTMENT?
Your baby’s first dentist appointment should happen by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing. The goal is to establish good oral hygiene with a dentist monitoring your child’s dental development. Alongside regular check-ups, your pediatric dentist identifies potential issues and helps your child’s teeth grow in with minimal complications.
WHEN DO BABY TEETH COME IN?
Your baby’s primary teeth come in when they are around 6 months old and continue to grow into a full set of 20 primary teeth by around age 3. Every child is unique, but in general, here is a timeline for when to expect all baby teeth to erupt (come in):
- Bottom front teeth come in at 6 to 10 months.
- Front-top teeth come in at 8 to 12 months.
- Next to the top front teeth, they come in at 9 to 13 months.
- Next to the bottom, the front teeth come in at 10 to 16 months.
- The first upper and lower molars come in at 13 to 19 months.
- Upper and lower canines come in at 16 to 23 months.
- The second upper and lower molars come in at 23 to 33 months.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY BABY'S TEETH?
To clean your baby’s teeth, sit them on your lap and rest their head on your chest. Then, gently tilt your child’s head backwards, and with a baby toothbrush, brush their teeth in small circles, covering all the surfaces. Afterwards, your child can spit the toothpaste out.
WHAT IS SILVER DIAMINE FLUORIDE?
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a dental treatment, especially for kids, that kills germs and prevents tooth decay. SDF is a liquid that contains silver, fluoride, ammonia, and water and is applied to baby teeth to prevent cavities. It is perfect for kids (and older people) who can’t or don’t often want to brush their teeth.
